Why Work With Todd Hickman, LCSW?
Practical support for your growth and well-being
Choosing a therapist is a major decision. I offer a straightforward, supportive environment where you can feel comfortable while we tackle your challenges and work toward your goals.
A history of helping people heal
For more than three decades, I have helped individuals, couples, and families manage complex mental health and behavioral issues. This experience means I have the tools and the perspective to help you make real, lasting progress.
Professional skill meets personal experience
I bring a unique perspective to addiction counseling by combining professional expertise with 35 years of personal recovery experience. This dual understanding allows me to provide a more compassionate and effective level of care for those struggling with chemical dependency or other compulsive habits.
Therapy designed for your life
My approach is about finding solutions that actually work for your life. We will look at the behaviors and perceptions that might be keeping you stuck and tailor every session to your specific needs. The goal is to move past your difficulties and build a life that feels more meaningful to you.
A collaborative way to heal
Good health involves more than just one thing. I often coordinate with psychiatrists, primary care doctors, and nutritionists to make sure all parts of your physical and mental well-being are being cared for as part of a single, collaborative plan.
What to Expect in Therapy
A clear path toward feeling like yourself again.
S
tarting therapy is a significant step, and it says a lot about your commitment to getting better. My approach is simple: I provide a safe, professional space where we focus on real-world solutions rather than just talking in circles. Together, we will look at the habits or perspectives that might be getting in your way and develop practical strategies for lasting change. By combining clinical experience with a genuine partnership, we can work through your current challenges and move toward a life that feels more fulfilling and balanced.
Finding a Way Forward
Focusing on what works
You are already taking the first steps toward feeling more empowered and finding a positive path forward.
The Session Experience
Our time together
We usually meet once a week to talk through what is going on in your life and how it relates to your specific goals. For therapy to really work, it helps to be an active participant. Sometimes that means trying out new coping skills, doing a bit of reading, or journaling between our sessions to keep the momentum going.
It takes a lot of self-awareness to recognize when you need a helping hand, and that is something to be proud of.
A Holistic View of Health
Getting to the root cause
Medication can be helpful for managing symptoms, but therapy is where we address the underlying causes of distress. I believe in looking at the whole picture, which is why I am happy to coordinate care with your doctor or other specialists to make sure you are getting the most comprehensive support possible.
Real, lasting change happens when we look at the whole person, not just the symptoms.
Trust and Confidentiality
A secure space
What you share in our sessions stays between us. By law, your information cannot be shared without your explicit written permission. This privacy allows you to be completely honest and open, which is essential for healing. I take these professional boundaries seriously to ensure you always have a secure environment to do your work.
Your privacy is a fundamental part of the therapeutic relationship and your right as a client.
